Park Ambassador
Park Ambassadors provide helpful information to Overton Park visitors, enhancing the overall park experience for everyone. Duties may include:
- Greeting park visitors
- Providing information and assistance to park visitors
- Giving guided tours
- Monitor park activities in a friendly and welcoming manner
Requirements:
Ambassadors enjoy helping others explore and enjoy Overton Park and are able to communicate effectively with individuals and groups of all ages. Ambassadors are required to attend Volunteer Orientation and annual refresher training, and must be 18 years old or more. Park Ambassadors report to OPC Director of Operations and OPC Director of Volunteers.
Garden Volunteer
Garden Volunteers perform garden and grounds maintenance. Duties may include:
- General cleanup of park grounds
- Planting, weeding, and mulching of flowerbeds
- Removal of non-native invasive plant species
Requirements:
Garden Volunteers enjoy keeping Overton Park clean and green. All required skills are taught on the job as needed. Garden Volunteers are required to attend Volunteer Orientation and annual refresher training, and must be 18 years old or more. Garden Volunteer opportunities are also available for families and groups of young people. Garden Volunteers report to OPC Director of Operations and OPC Director of Volunteers.
Event Volunteer
Event Volunteers provide production assistance for rentals and special events to ensure that everyone has an exciting and fun time at Overton Park. Duties may include:
- Greeting attendees
- Assisting with admissions
- Set up and tear down sites or stage elements
- Assisting at hospitality areas
- General event monitoring and crowd flow management
Requirements:
Event Volunteers are required to attend Volunteer Orientation and annual refresher training, and must be 18 years old or more. Attention to detail and previous experience in event management is a plus! Event Volunteers report to OPC Director of Events.
Office Volunteer
Office Volunteers assist the office operations of the Overton Park Conservancy. Duties may include:
- Preparing mailings
- Updating and maintaining databases
- Special research projects
Requirements:
Office Volunteers enjoy clerical work; Computer proficiency is a plus! Office Volunteers are required to attend Volunteer Orientation and annual refresher training, and must be 18 years old or more. Office Volunteers report to the Director of Volunteers.
Program Volunteer
Program Volunteers assist OPC staff with various public programs offered year-round at Overton Park. Duties may include:
- Helping to design, build, set up and tear down stage elements
- Coordinating art projects
- Interacting with groups of children and adults
- Acting and performing
- Making presentations to community organizations
- Assisting with Overton Park field trips
Requirements:
Program Volunteers are able to communicate effectively and should be creative, outgoing, and flexible. Program Volunteers are required to attend Volunteer Orientation and annual refresher training. Program Volunteers report to the OPC Programs Consultant and the Director of Volunteers.
Dog Park Volunteer
Assist staff with day-to-day operations, programs, and special events that will be created specifically for our upcoming dog park — Overton Bark — set to open in May 2012, south of the Rainbow Lake Playground.
Group Work Days
Group Work Days are opportunities for large organizations to give one-half to one day of service to Overton Park. Groups such as schools, churches, mosques, synagogues, corporations, and volunteer groups are welcomed. Opportunities include:
- Litter removal
- Non-native plant species removal
- Special event staffing
- Special park maintenance projects
Requirements:
Work Day volunteers must generally be 18 years or older; if children are allowed, they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. A representative of the group is required to meet with Director of Operations and/or Director of Volunteers prior to the scheduled Work Day to review details.

Overton Park Volunteers must agree to a standard of acceptable conduct that will reflect positively on Overton Park, the Overton Park Conservancy, and the City of Memphis, and not diminish or jeopardize public trust. Volunteers must agree to behave appropriately at all times and not consume, possess, or be under the influence of any alcoholic beverage, tobacco product, or illegal drug on any volunteer project.
