Rental Facilities and Fees

Overton Park has a variety of locations available for your event. Your rental fee directly supports Overton Park Conservancy’s work to maintain and beautify this Memphis treasure. Below you will find a list of facilities and fees, which are based on rental increments of either four-hour rentals or full-day rentals. Rates apply to both private rentals and special events.

Overton Park GreenswardThe Greensward
Overton Park’s signature open space, the Greensward is bordered by Veteran’s Plaza to the west, Rainbow Lake to the east, and Rainbow Lake Playground to the southeast. It is ideal for open-air special events that require a lot of space for booths, stages, and recreation.

2017 Rates

  • $1,000 / four-hour rental
  • $2,000 / eight-hour rental
  • $250 / each additional hour

Large event fees could include flat fee, plus percentage of gross, depending on the level and scope of event.

Since Overton Park is a public park, only a portion of the Greensward may be rented. This will be included in all fees quoted.

Overton Park, East Parkway PavilionEast Parkway Pavilion
The park’s largest covered structure, East Parkway Pavilion is adjacent to a playground and picnic area, restrooms and water fountains, and the Old Forest State Natural Area. This is the perfect location for large family reunions, church groups, and company picnics.

  • $500 / four-hour rental (both private and special events)
  • $700 / eight-hour rental (private events only); $1,000 / eight-hour rental (special events)
  • $125 / each additional hour (both private and special events)

Formal gardens at Overton ParkFormal Gardens
This landscaped area is covered with beautiful white-blossomed crape myrtle trees, and is a lovely setting for an intimate wedding or small event. Tents can be set up on the grounds for weather protection.

  • $125 / each additional hour

Rainbow Lake Pavilion at Overton ParkRainbow Lake Pavilion
This smaller pavilion contains picnic tables, restrooms, and water fountains. It is adjacent to the newly renovated Rainbow Lake Playground, making it a great location for a child’s birthday party or small family reunion.

  • $62.50 / each additional hour

Veterans Plaza at Overton ParkVeteran’s Plaza
This area to the east of the formal gardens and west of the Greensward honors America’s veterans.  It is not available for private rental, but special events may be held here.

  • Free to official military groups
  • $250 / four-hour rental
  • $500 / eight-hour rental
  • $62.50 / each additional hour

Other areas near Rainbow Lake and the East Parkway picnic areas will be rentable in the future. It is the right of Overton Park Conservancy to negotiate special one-time fees upon consideration of type of event and value to the community.

Required Deposits
A $100 non-refundable deposit is due with your signed application. A date is NOT confirmed until Overton Park Conservancy has a signed application and deposit in hand. The $100 deposit counts toward the total fee, and is not in addition to fee assessed. There is a minimum of $150 fee assessed for any event.

A damage deposit may be required due no later than 14 calendar days prior to proposed event date. Overton Park Conservancy determines the damage deposit fee based on prior history, park location, time of year, and scope of event. Damage deposits range from $250 – $1,000 depending on scope of event and rental history.

Balance of Fees and Additional Permits
The balance of all fees is due at least twenty-one (21) days prior to the date of your event. It is the responsibility of the customer to communicate with Overton Park Conservancy’s Visitor Services Coordinator about any extenuating circumstances.

If your event is for more than 25 people, you must apply for a special events permit with the City of Memphis after your application with Overton Park Conservancy has been approved and signed. The City’s permit office is located at 2714 Union Avenue Extended, 1st Floor (use rear entrance), and the office can be reached at 901.636.6711.

You must apply for your permit with the city, as well as paying all fees to Overton Park Conservancy, by 21 days prior to the date of your event. Event maps and certificate of insurance are due no later than 21 calendar days prior to proposed special event dates. Applications received after the 21-calendar day deadline will be assessed a $100 late fee and may not be considered.
