OPC Looks Towards the Future

In the past few years, Overton Park and the cultural institutions that call the park home, have experienced a boom in popularity and usage. With the expanding success of the Brooks Museum of Art, Levitt Shell, Memphis College of Art, Memphis Zoo, and the Links at Overton Park, we have seen the transformation of the park’s biggest assets, playgrounds, trails and popular public spaces. More people than ever are visiting the park, and we expect this trend to continue.

With this increase in visitors comes an increase in traffic and parking congestion across the park. The Board of Directors of Overton Park Conservancy is taking the first step in determining solutions that address this growing concern. Today, we are releasing a Request for Proposals focused on parking and traffic planning that will include an extensive public engagement component. Overton Park Conservancy sees this effort as the first step in a park-wide master planning process.

Overton Park has the assets to be the number one park in the country. We continually see outside visitors coming to spend time here. Overton Park Conservancy is focused on leading this process and establishing a footprint for our park over the coming decades. Look for opportunities to participate in this planning process early next year.
